1. How do I become a member of LIUNA Local 615?

2. Do I need construction experience to join?
No. Many members begin with little or no experience. We can help identify training opportunities to build your skills.
3. What documents should I bring when applying?
Bring government-issued photo ID, your Social Insurance Number, certifications or safety training certificates, your resume and any apprenticeship or trade documentation.
4. Can I transfer from another LIUNA Local?
Yes. Members in good standing may be eligible to transfer. Contact your union office to confirm your eligibility and to assist with the transfer process.
5. Can apprentices join Local 615?
Absolutely. We support apprenticeship opportunities and help members work toward certification while gaining valuable on the job experience.
1. How do I get dispatched to work?
Members who are unemployed and in good standing can place their name on the Out-of-Work List (OWL). Contractors request workers based on skills and qualifications needed for each job.
2. What is the Out-of-Work List?
It is a list of available members seeking employment. Dispatches are made in accordance with the collective agreement and employer requests.
3. Do I have to accept every dispatch?
Members should be available for work when on the Out-of-Work list. If you are unavailable, notify the office as soon as possible. Two consecutive refusals will result in being placed at the bottom of the Out-of-Work list.
4. What if I find my own job with a signatory contractor?
That’s great! Let the Local know so we can confirm the Contractors’ eligibility for name hires and so your membership and benefit records remain current.
5. Can I work for a non-union contractor?
This depends on your membership obligations and the circumstances. Contact the office before accepting non-union work.
1. What benefits do LIUNA Local 615 Members receive?
Eligible members may receive employer-funded Health & Welfare benefits, pension contributions, training opportunities, union representation and competitive wages.
2. When do my Health & Welfare benefits begin?
Benefits begin once you meet the eligibility required under the benefit plan and complete the required enrollment forms. (work 260 hours, one month waiting period, i.e. reach 260 hours in February, March is the one month waiting period, benefits begin April 1). You can register for an online account with Benefit Plan Administrators at BPA Portal or contact their office directly for assistance at 902-455-7277 or toll free at 1-866-426-4433.
3. How do I check my benefit coverage?
You can register for an online account with Blue Cross Medavie at Blue Cross Member Account for questions regarding coverage included in your plan.
4. How does the pension work?
Employers contribute to the pension plan for eligible hours worked under the collective agreement. Retirement benefits are determined by the pension plan rules. LPFCEC can be reached with any questions at 1-866-932-1100.

Employer contributions fund eligible Health & Welfare and pension benefits through the collective agreement.

Union dues help support representation, negotiations, organizing, training and the operation of the Local.

Dues are generally deducted from your wages but can also be paid through the Local office, in person, by phone at 902-450-5626 or online at Dues Payments.
3. What happens if my dues fall behind?
Members should contact the office immediately. Keeping your dues current helps maintain your good standing and eligibility for union services. Falling more than 2 months behind risks suspension of your membership as per our Local Union Constitution.

Training may include WHMIS, Fall Protection, Confined Space, Elevated Work Platform, First Aid/CPR, Telehandler, Forklift and other industry-required courses.
